Associate Professor Shane Hulbert
Associate Professor Shane Hulbert is Deputy Head of School, Higher Education, with a practice that specialises in photography.
His photography celebrates the diversity inherent in Australian culture, with particular emphasis on understanding the effects of multiple narratives of immigration, settlement and tourism (including the ubiquitous Aussie backpacker) on Australian cultural identity.
His work has been shown nationally and internationally, most notably at Melbourne Now, National Gallery of Australia (2013), and at the Centre for Contemporary Photography (2010), Monash Gallery of Art (2014), Perth Centre for Photography (2008), various international galleries including the Photographers Gallery in London (1996). In addition to exhibitions, Shane has also curated a number of photography exhibitions including Photography 130 at RMIT Gallery (2017), Lumens Festival in Suzhou, China (2012), Hong Kong ID at the Museum of Chinese and Australian History (2013) and Territories at Project Space (2009).
