The School of Art plays a pivotal role in accelerating RMIT’s ambitions to become the leading Australian university in Asia. It has long established translational partnerships with The Hong Kong Art Centre/ Hong Kong Art School to deliver Bachelor of Arts and Master of Fine Arts programs in Hong Kong. Building on these experiences and strengths, agreements are also in place with East China Normal University (ECNU) for Masters by Coursework programs in Public Art and Arts Managements, allowing students to study in both China and Melbourne and be awarded degrees from both institutions.
The School of Art fosters innovative and diverse art practice and research within visual art, fine art, public art, and arts management.
The School manages INTERSECT — six creative projects that together form a dynamic program of exhibitions, residencies, creative laboratories, talks and events. These projects consider and use contemporary art as a means of intersecting with and enriching our University community, as well as our broader local and global ones. They are PROJECT SPACE, SPARE ROOM, SITUATE, SITE EIGHT, the LIGHTSCAPES and SPEAKER.
CAST Contemporary Art and Social Transformation is a research group based in the School of Art at RMIT University.
CAST produces art research that critically engages with social and public spheres with a particular interest in how artistic practices intersect with issues of equity, access and democracy. CAST is a hub for critical thinking, collaboration and the exchange of ideas, knowledge dissemination, practice-led artistic research and socially-engaged art practice. CAST engages on local and international levels by collaborating with practitioners, communities, industry, and government partner.

HONG KONG ART SCHOOL
A highlight of the School's international reach is its ongoing partnership with the Hong Kong Art School, which is a division of the Hong Kong Art Centre. This unique collaboration has recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, delivering the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) and Master of Fine Art programs in Hong Kong. It has established a alumni of over 800 graduates who continue to establish national and international careers in the arts.
