Mentoring: Process & Outcomes
Insistent. Gestures. at RMIT Gallery (running concurrently with the contemporary jewellery exhibition MasterMakers) brings together the work of five artists who live, work or were born in Asia to explore personal narratives, diasporic identity and the use of repetition. In this talk, curator Yu Fang Chi and her mentor Kate Rhodes discuss the mentoring process and outcomes from both sides of the relationship.

Featuring artists: Kazumi Nagano, Yong Joo Kim, Chen Chun Tai, Cyrus Tang and Yu Fang Chi

Making is Knowing: jewellery panel discussion
Join artists Eli Giannini, Tassia Joannides and Prof Michael Trudgeon in this panel discussion which explores the process of making to drive design development and transformation of materials. It relates to ways of 'getting to know materials' through durational labour and a making process that considers working with materials as a constant process of learning and sometimes play.

MasterMakers: artists reflection on the masterclass
Masterclasses are presented as a new way of approaching making in the studio, a way of thinking and feeling about the relationship between tool and experiencing materials through hand and mind.

'Formosa on my mind' jewellery Master Class floor talk
‘FORMOSA ON MY MIND’ is an exhibition outcome of Emeritus Prof. Robert Baines (RMIT) teaching residency in NTHU, Taiwan.

His workshop and lectures focused on the origins of an idea and the strategies to develop a subject using single line drawing, collage and assemblage.
