2018 Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) catalogue
It gives me great pleasure to introduce this year’s BA (Fine Art) graduates from the School of Art. 2018 has seen the world become even more complex and unpredictable. Against this background the School of Art at RMIT University continues to maintain its record of graduating students ready for a vocation that engages with contemporary society. As an integral part of their programme all this year’s graduates will have formed an idea of how they might engage with this ever changing and demanding world. As well as creative and technical skills, our students will graduate with critical thinking skills enabling them to construct ways of dealing with these turbulent times. The School of Art works towards graduating people with ‘skilled hands and a cultivated mind’ in line with RMIT’s credo. In a world dominated by digital technologies, fake news and dumbing-down, this aspiration may seem out of step. But this is far from the reality; Art has never been so relevant as it is today. The world needs creative and critical thinkers to imagine and fashion new ways of making sense of contemporary culture and our graduates are a part of that cohort. After graduating our students will move into society making art in a manner of ways. All with a view to making a better world.
I would like to thank all the staff in the School of Art for their committed support of our students not only this year but every year. They are an exceptional group of people with a clear passion and purpose: to make our students’ time at RMIT the best experience possible.
Congratulations to this year’s graduates. Go and make a difference.
