Bauhaus Lantern Parade

RMIT School of Art’s Bauhaus Lantern Parade transformed the streets of a wintry Melbourne on Monday.

50 students from RMIT, VCA, and QCA Griffith University were invited to participate in a lantern-making workshop and parade as part of the Bauhaus Now! exhibition at Buxton Contemporary. The workshop included presentations by artists Claire Lambe (VCA), Justene Williams and Mikala Dwyer, Julian Goddard, Mark Shorter, Ciaran Begley, and architectural historian Phillip Goad (Melbourne University).

Students spent the week making a lantern they carried in the parade from RMIT School of Art Building 50 (MA (Art in Public Space)) and proceeded down Swanston street past RMIT Gallery to Buxton Contemporary. The lanterns were ceremonially installed at Buxton Contemporary.
