EAMON SPROD

DOCTORAL RESEARCHER

Primarily working under the project title TARAB, eamon sprod explores re-contextualised collected sounds and tactile gestures formed into dynamic, spatial, psycho-geographical compositions inspired by discarded things, found things, crawling around in the dirt, junk, the ground, rocks, dust, wind, walking aimlessly, scratchy things, decay and most if not all the things he hears and sees. More than simply documenting a given site, TARAB is interested in a direct engagement with our surrounds, teasing out half narratives, visceral sensation, false leads and heightened awareness: not describing a space, but attempting to shape one.

Recent works have consisted of multi-channel, site responsive performances and installations for speakers, transducers, found things (sound and objects), microphones and rooms itself.

eamon sprod / TARAB has presented performances through out Australia, Europe, Japan, Korea, North and South America; compositional works have been published on labels including Naturestrip (AU), nonlinear (AU), 23five (US), Unfathomless (BE), Aposiopese (FR), Swarming (FR), Cronica (PT), Semperflorens (RU), Hemisphäreの空虚 (AU) and also his own sonicrubbish imprint formed in 2018.

EAMON SPROD RESEARCH SUMMARY

SPACES FROM SOUND-SOUNDS FROM SPACE
Eamon Sprod’s research examines various types of spaces and what sound does there, working towards the shaping of spaces from sound. From the arrangement of speculative sonic compositions, towards the development of tangible site-responsive installation works. Exploring the use of simple combinations of things; rooms; collected sounds; audio reproduction technology; physical materials; to form sound rooms in which everyday spaces are understood as more than simple containers for sound, but are to be considered as active participants within the shaping of experiences for listeners. Drawing equally on ideas of the mundane, the sensory, the imaginary and the liminal space where the inside and outside meet.
