Moving Still: Exploring Post-digital Resonance in Landscape and Atmosphere Across Print Interfaces

In artworks that depict landscape and atmospheric conditions, Moving Still explores the mediating effects of digital image filters such as bitmap or half tone dots. Deploying concepts of abstraction, depth perception, spatial interference, and time perspective, the research considers advancements and consequences of digital image technologies on representations of landscape. Employing a methodology that contrasts traditional and slow print technologies with contemporary and rapid print technologies, the research also visualises potential influences of contemporary mobility and duration on a perception of landscape. Studio methods developed during this research further investigate technological mediations on landscape images, through a painting method that is informed by a mechanical print-based process which mimics a photographic presence. The artworks challenge the observer to decipher filtered landscapes to provoke a consideration of the resonances of digital imaging on perceptions of landscape and atmosphere.
