The Journal of Public Space

You are invited to join us for the launch of The Journal of Public Space Special Edition: Art & Activism (vol. 4, n. 3) during ACUADS 2019.

This Art and Activism in Public Space issue features a special section on the art and activism of artists who have come through the MAPS Master of Arts (Art in Public Space) program at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia.

Professor Kit Wise is the Guest Editor of this issue and will host Benjamin Cittadini and Jessie Stanley as they share an introduction to their work featured in this special edition.

RMIT University is a leader in public art, public and social practice by taking a multidisciplinary approach to creative practice that engages critically with contemporary urban culture. The MAPS program engages with practice based creative arts inquiry to explore key issues confronting global public environments. By making connections between theory, art practice and everyday life the program engages with issues central to international cultural, political and social debates and recognises the important role public space plays as a forum for these exchanges.

The Journal of Public Space is the first, international, interdisciplinary, academic, open access journal entirely dedicated to public space, It speaks different languages and is open to embrace diversity, inconvenient dialogues and untold stories, from multidisciplinary fields and all countries, especially from those that usually not have voice, overcoming the Western-orientated approach that is leading the current discourse.

As a proper public space, The Journal of Public Space is free, accessible and inclusive, providing a platform for emerging and consolidated researchers; it is intended to foster research, showcase best practices and inform discussion about the more and more important issues related to public spaces in our changing and evolving societies.
