Led by Dr Kelly Hussey-Smith

World Centred practices situate photography as a social practice that intersects with the practical, historical, and theoretical discourses of documentary practice, photojournalism, socially engaged art, and critical theory.

Defined in part by its relationship to other disciplines with similarly outward orientations, such as journalism, activism and social research, the World Centred area supports students to develop practices that address the issues of our time through research, partnerships, and independent visual investigations.

Students work within the context of existing and emerging photographic areas including documentary photography, social practice, speculative documentary, photojournalism and visual politics.

World-centred studios are orientated towards documentary approaches, community engagement, and the politics of representation, and are designed to support students to develop photographic practices that reflect a considered, ethical, and social world view.
