(inside Brunswick Town Hall), Brunswick

RMIT School of Art PhD candidate Brian McKinnon will be giving an artist talk this Saturday 1 July at 2pm at Counihan Gallery.

Brian will discuss his current exhibition considered-uncontrollable, which runs until 5pm, Sunday 30 July.

The floor talk will be followed by an opportunity to ask questions.

considered-uncontrollable
The Australian bushfires of 2019 and 2020 resonated deeply with artist Brian McKinnon because he drew parallels with his own life. He describes his adolescence as “burning out of control, not unlike a grass or bushfire”.

But fire also represents the companionship of the traditional cultural practice he encountered over many years on his extensive travels.

Guided by his culture, and inspired by strong family matriarchs, McKinnon’s paintings confront colonial ignorance and denial. He interweaves personal stories and bizarre events, carefully balancing concealment and revelation.
