Matt Lipps: Material Matters
Straight from his studio in Los Angeles, hear artist Matt Lipps discuss his photographic work and the distinct collage and staging technique he has developed over the last 15-plus years of practice. Appropriating images from ‘high’ and ‘low’ culture, Lipps refers to his work as being “in, with, and alongside photography”, investigating how we relate to photography as a shared historical artefact, a means of social engagement, and material object.
Lipps’ work is held in international collections (The Getty, LACMA, SFMOMA, Saatchi Gallery London). He is represented by Marc Selwyn Fine Art (Los Angeles), Jessica Silverman Gallery (San Francisco), and Josh Lilley Gallery (London).
See him here in Melbourne and in the exhibition To the Moon and Back, part of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale.
